Consulting for founders past the easy part.
Senior advisory and operator-investor work for African ventures between year three and year ten, which is the survival window.
Three lanes.
TBGA Consulting Group works with founders who are past the part everybody writes about. The three lanes below are the only work I take. Every engagement is fixed scope at a fixed price, because hourly billing rewards the wrong thing on both sides of the table.
Stay-Up Diagnostic
A four to six week assessment of your venture against the framework in the book.
Output: written diagnostic + 90-day action plan.
Operator-Investor
Post-Seed / pre-Series A capital in selective deals, with hands-on involvement on cap table, governance, and execution.
Output: capital + a board seat.
Board Advisory
Quarterly board engagement for ventures in years three to seven, focused on governance, capital, and key hires.
Output: a sharper board.
Target client profile.
Founders of revenue-generating African ventures somewhere between year three and year ten. Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Zambia primarily; Kenya, Nigeria, and Ghana selectively.
The common thread is a venture that has already proved somebody will pay, and now has to survive its own growth. That is a different problem from finding product-market fit, and it needs a different kind of help.
I do not take pre-revenue ideation work, large-enterprise transformation, or anything that needs an answer by Friday. If what you want is a deck, there are agencies for that. This is operating work.
The process.
- Intro call (free, 30 min). Scope-fit and chemistry.
- Diagnostic week. We read the data room, talk to two operators on your team, and write a one-page summary.
- Engagement letter. Fixed scope, fixed price, defined deliverable. No hourly billing.
- Work. four to twelve weeks depending on track. Weekly written updates.
- Handoff. Final deliverable + a 90-day post-engagement review at no extra charge.
